Don’t be fooled by his cuteness.
University
On Wednesday I attended class at university after a long day at work. I questioned my decision to take the two courses I signed up for because I was already tired by the time the class started.
Today, I read a few pages of an assigned chapter, and I don’t regret the decision anymore. The chapter talks about behavior management which I want to improve on in my teaching. I include a picture my sister’s dog because he chewed on the pages of this week’s assigned reading. I tend to leave all my stuff on the floor.. 🙂
Teaching
Even though teaching can be super difficult at times, my students make my life better. They don’t know that they’re my greatest teachers. I have two classes of students that I thought last semester, and I’m still memorizing the names of my new students. This weekend I’m going to do lots of lesson planning, so that I’m not as stressed during the week. I also get an extra day off on Monday!
Everything Else
- I’ve been wearing dresses and skirts more. I plan to buy more dresses and skirts this weekend. Wearing dress and skirts is making me feel more comfortable with my femininity. I have never been a girly girl.
- I reconnected with a friend I lost touch with and a classmate I’ve had in previous university classes.
- My current jam is “Side Effects” by The Chainsmokers.
- I haven’t done any personal book reading because I’m super exhausted by the time I get home. Actually, I haven’t been doing the things that I usually do like journaling, blogging, and working out.
I’m trying to find the best way to balance everything. I definitely want to continue to be part of the blogging world 🙂
What have you been up to?
Andrea
Ah balance is the key. It seems to be an endless task. Just when you think you’ve found it, something new jumps in to interrupt! Sometimes it’s hard knowing the difference between opportunity and distraction! My best time to write is in the very early morning hours before everything else vies for my attention!

I totally agree with “knowing the difference between opportunity and distraction.” Writing in the early morning reminds me of a quote by Mary Oliver. She said, “Believe me, if anybody has a job and starts at 9, there’s no reason why they can’t get up at 4:30 or five and write for a couple of hours, and give their employers their second-best effort of the day – which is what I did.” I love this because by the end of the day, I’m too tired to write 🙂

Joining in the “balancing life and work” pond; though I have to admit I am loving blogging. I was a Creative Writing major through most of college (I switched so History was my primary in an attempt to graduate on time, didn’t work, so my Bachelor’s is in History), but I’m embracing the opportunity to write on a regular basis again. The main time I tend to wear dresses or skirts are for medieval faires, because boots are more comfortable on my feet, though maybe if I was able to wear sandals on a regular basis for work, I might wear skirts and dresses for often. I settle for finding cute tops and I’m experimenting in different hairstyles.

I’ve always wondered how I would have felt as a Creative Writing major. How was your experience of the Creative Writing courses? I’m with you on the writing on a regular basis again. I’ve never been to a medieval faire, and it sound so fun! I’d wear flip-flops to work if I could 🙂

On the one hand, professional courses in writing are helpful and they gave me a chance to try other writing styles and gave me reviews. But, my main interest is fantasy writing and since my professor wasn’t familiar with the genre, I wasn’t allowed to write it, so I struggled a bit. Gave me a good background, nevertheless. I wonder what it would be like to go back and take further classes now, incorporating styles I’ve read since I’ve graduated. I can tell my own writing evolves each year and evolves after reading other good writing.

I agree! I’ve been reading more poetry lately, especially contemporary poetry. (I’m currently working on a manuscript of poetry.) & it is changing my writing style. Thank you for sharing your experience! I’ve found that reading anything like short stories and novels have influence my poetry, too, so there are benefits of having of having a good background, learning about different genres 🙂

Ah, the life/ fun balance. It’s not easy to find. I still struggle, after a few months of trying to find the new routine fitting. But I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel, so I hope you will, too. Soon enough.

I love the dog!
I have a toy dog just like that 😉
I am not a girly girl either. I am hardly ever wearing dresses, but you got me thinking!

Thank you! He can be a handful, so sometimes I wish he was a toy dog 😀 haha. The dresses have been perfect for the summery weather, too!

I’ve never been a girly girl either and I think sometimes that I should buy more dresses and skirts too! I am also trying to balance things out as well. 🙂

I think I was inspired by the teachers in the hallway that made dresses the “in” thing. 🙂 It’s fun trying them on since there are so many different styles. I’m glad I’m not alone in the balancing things out!

Balance is key! And I’ve also thought about buying more rompers since I only have one. They’re cute!

Yes! Would you believe I’ve never bought a romper? I’m going to check them out.

I never bought one either. Haha My sister randomly bought the only one I have. At first I didn’t think I’d like it but when I tried it on, I saw how super cute it was!
