a Saturday morning with Mary Oliver

did you see yesterday’s sunrise? Yesterday’s sunrise was orange and purple. Far off in the distance, I saw two planes ascend into the sky.

I wouldn’t have noticed it had it not occurred to me to look out the window.

These are the little things about life that take effort to notice. If you look up from your computer or phone screen, what do you see?

Listen, are you breathing just a little, and calling it a life?

Mary Oliver

breathe

Please don’t forget this: breathe. I used to find people, who paused during conversations to breathe deeply, weird.

Until I tried it myself. Inhaling and exhaling deeply relaxes your body. It clears your mind.

When you look at the world, do you see people consumed in the perfection of work? They look tense, stressed out.

They lose their humanity…obsessed in achieving, in getting the perfect results.

They don’t take a moment to breathe. They forget that we don’t take any of our work to the grave.

I’m guilty of this… 🤦🏽‍♀️

One day you finally knew / What you had to do, and began, / Determined to do / The only thing you could do‚ Determined to save / The only life you could save.

Mary Oliver

be your own hero

Be willing to save yourself by taking full responsibility of your life. You’re in charge of your peace and happiness.

You feel so much freedom when you stop looking outside yourself to feel whole. There’s no missing puzzle piece.

When you feel like you need to be saved, sometimes all you need is to find inside yourself what you’re looking for on the outside.

Maybe you need to feel love or you need to feel seen. Nurture self love. Give yourself the care that you need.

God’s love is within you. God helps and counsels. God strengthens. In God, there’s and abundance of love, advice, and strength.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to you imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting-over and over announcing your place in the family of things.

Mary Oliver

you’re part of the family of things

Of the times, I have felt lonely, I have found that loneliness is an illusion. There’s a place for everyone. There’s a place for you here in this journey of life.

Look in front of you. Look behind you. Look around you.

We’re all in the journey of life together through sunshine and storms. Can you see the rainbow ahead?

    1. That’s so true. I follow some people on social media who are on spiritual paths, and often while they’re speaking say in an IG story or Youtube video, they’ll pause just to take those deep long breaths, and it’s refreshing to see them not on the go and be present with whatever they’re saying & sharing.
