“How do you want to feel?” is the question we should be asking ourselves instead of “What do you want to accomplish?”
As I grow older, my goal has always been to be a happy person. To be a happy person, one must choose a positive attitude more often than not.
I say more often than not because positivity doesn’t mean that we don’t experience bouts of anger or sadness. It also doesn’t mean that we’re positive people 24/7.
There’s a quote I read a while back from Desirée B. Silvage’s blog LITERARY TRUCE :
The art of aging is the art of keeping some hope.
As I grow older, I’ve come to understand that I must work hard to protect the part of me that is hopeful because there will always be things that try to take our hope away.
Positivity comes down to the way we choose to perceive life. Positivity always comes down to one choice. May we continue to choose that which keeps our hope alive.
Happiness likes to keep things simple. Happiness evades you when you set your expectations so high on what it takes for you to be happy.
When you lower your expectations, when you find acceptance and contentment with less, happiness meets you there.
It’s easier to find happiness when you begin looking at all tasks in your day as wonders of life, with curiosity.
I encourage you to find happiness especially in your private moments, be it in your inner reflections or moments of routine. Look at how far you’ve come! How much strength and perspective have you accumulated as a result?
Lastly, help make happiness go around. Your words and actions are powerful enough to make someone’s day. A few words of encouragement go a long way.
There are times when negative thoughts want to get the best of you. Those days when you’re in a rut. Those nights when you can’t sleep and that inner voice drags you into a pit of disillusion.
When negative thoughts want to get the best of you, remember that negative thoughts don’t come from a place of love.
Say, for example, when you judge yourself for overeating or indulging on a sweet, and you make some harsh remarks about it, the love within you will not be harsh. The love within you will be understanding and patient.
Negative thoughts will also lie to you. They don’t let you appreciate your life. If the negative thoughts are about yourself, they don’t let you see your beauty and value. If the negative thoughts are about your life, they prevent you from appreciating all of the goodness already present in your life.
You have to be stronger than your negative feelings and thoughts. Acknowledge their presence, but don’t let them overpower the situation. Negative thoughts and feelings can inspire you to get back on track and to do the things that will bring you back to a peaceful state of being.
